Blossoms on Steroids

I just had to share this with everyone! When we planted Michael's garden back in May, there was a small stump (looked more like a dead twig) sticking out of the ground in one spot. I thought I had remembered planting something there last year but wasn't sure, so I went ahead a left the stump there since it had a 2-inch piece of greenery sticking out at the bottom.

A few weeks ago the stump was looking like a bunch of tall overgrown greenery. Basically looked like a big weed - fairly ugly. I was about ready to pull it out when I looked a little harder and noticed tiny buds amongst the tangles. I decided to leave it alone for a little while longer. Well, I'm glad I did, because look what's blooming there now:
To give you an idea of how big these flowers are:

This one is like 7 1/2 inches across!

Everyone keeps asking me what kind of plant it is. I barely remember planting it, so have no idea what these flowers are, but I'm glad I had a little patience and didn't yank the stump out!

These began blooming just as my group of shasta daisies finished blooming below them, and now I am noticing another small round of daisies coming on. It's been fun to watch this garden bloom. Happy summer!

What a treat to discover! I'm glad you didn't pull the stump, too!

I didn't realize how big the flowers were until I saw the picture with your hand as a comparison! Holy manoly, those are big and beautiful. I decided since it is Michael's garden, it must be a sign that he must be learning and growing too. :)

Ha Ha! Steph said exactly what I was going to write. Too funny. I love the bright color! My house is grey and my van is grey, and the rocks surronding the house are grey. So we have pink-red and orange-red roses, and pink echinacea, and multi-colored pansies, and lots of daisy-ish flowers, and yellow somethings, and something red. Daylilies too that will bloom next year. Huge bright flowers are awesome!

Just shows what patience can accomplish. Or what we can become from just a little stump. Those flowers are truly beautiful, like people who don't look like they have much promise to begin with.
